Ani-TAY: Anime Club Series VotingS

Well TheUnfathomableTruth tried to steal my thunder (even though he gave me the idea in the first place) but I won't be having any of that! The first rule of Ani-Club is to TALK ABOUT ANI-CLUB. After all, it's all about discussion! We'll pick a series, watch a few episodes a week and have a discussion about those few episodes. You'll have to provide your own tea and biscuits. I've put together a shortlist of series to choose from initially, but please nominate your own as well. It can be something you've watched before and want to watch again, a brand new series, or something that's been on your radar for a while.

Here are the initial nominees:

Turn-A Gundam

Plot Summary: The year is Correct Century 2345. The civilization of Earth is at about the level it was during World War I. Long ago, humanity traveled through space, but the people of Earth have long forgotten about that. However, an advanced civilization still exists in cities on the moon, and now this Moonrace, in desperate need of resources, sets its sights back on its home planet. Three Moonrace teenagers, Loran Cehack, Keith Laijie, and Fran Doll, are sent to make sure that a return is even feasible, and are followed two years later by the invading Dianna Counter forces. Now, five thousand years after humanity first traveled into space, a new war is brewing between the Earthlings defending their homes, the Moonrace looking to settle on Earth, and other members of the Moonrace who believe a return to Earth may revive a nightmare from humanity's forgotten past...

Martian Successor Nadesico

Plot Summary: Akito Tenkawa doesn't want to fight. Despite a childhood spent as a fan of the anime Gekiganger 3, a mecha show, he'd rather cook than pilot a mecha. Fate intervenes when his home on Mars is destroyed, and he is mysteriously transported in an instant to the Earth. He has questions no one can fully answer, but follows a girl from a chance meeting in the hope of discovering what has happened to him. The girl, Yurika Misumaru, is captain of the private battleship Nadesico, and in order to follow her, he enlists as the ship's cook. Possessing the nanite implants that allow him to control mecha, he's a handy backup pilot for the tactical mecha of the Nadesico, the Aestivalises. He joins a crew bent on avenging Mars and composed of misfits, otaku, and ditzes, but who are in reality handpicked experts. They take their own private war back to Mars to face the harsh reality that life may not always be like a giant mecha series.

Henneko (The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat)

Plot Summary: Yōto Yokodera is a perverted schoolboy who is unable to express his true feelings freely. After hearing about the wish-granting Stony Cat, he decides to try and make an offering to lose his facade, only to meet Tsukiko who wishes instead to be more discreet with her feelings to become more adultlike. Who'd have thought the rumors of the wish-granting Stony Cat turns out to be true; transferring the facade that Yōto wishes to lose into a classmate who needs it more and making it difficult for Tsukiko to show even the slightest of emotions on her face. Ani-TAY: Anime Club Series VotingS

Plot Summary: Haruhi is a poor tomboyish student at a school for the ultra-wealthy, able to attend because of a scholarship, and unable to even afford a uniform. One day, she stumbles across the decidedly peculiar but very popular Ouran Host Club. She tries to leave, but accidentally breaks a vase, and unable to pay for it, she's told that she'll have to stay and do odd jobs. That is, until they decide she would be more valuable as a club member. Not realizing she's female due to her appearance, they fix her up and give her a male uniform. She's an instant hit, so they decide to have her keep up the charade even after they find out the truth. Haruhi, being average almost to a fault, doesn't know what to make of the unconventional activities of the Host Club (or of the even more unconventional members), but having little choice, she plays along. Before long, real bonds are formed, friends made, and Haruhi finds herself accepted in a way she could never have been otherwise in this affluent school.

Please place your votes in the comments in the following format:

1. (Series Name)

2. (Series Name)

3. (Series Name)

With the numbers indicating your first, second, and third choices respectively. Nominate whatever other series you'd like to see as well. Voting will close on Wednesday, and the weekly posts will be then as well (unless anyone feels another day will work better). Format wise I'm thinking 2 episodes a week (maybe 3 for fifty episode and above series), each post will focus on discussion of those two episodes and the series so far. Please chime in with any other suggestions you might have.
