Great Food Debate: Egg Rolls vs. Spring Rolls

This week: questioning what makes sense anymore. It's also more of a survey this week than a debate. Oh well. Food.

I had to re-examine what I knew about food when a friend of mine suggested this to me. What defines an egg roll, and what defines a spring roll? Some people would say one has meat and the other doesn't. But I've definitely had meatless egg rolls, and meat-ful spring rolls. With this in mind, I'm going to give the questions before I detail what I found. Answer them before reading the quoted text and then report back!

Egg Rolls (left picture):

Egg rolls are typically made with meat, usually pork or chicken, and vegetables such as cabbage and carrots. They are wrapped with a thicker egg-based wrapper before being fried. [source]

...the most popular ones being chicken, pork or beef. Egg Rolls are made up of mainly cabbage and chopped-up vegetables, which are sure to include carrots. The outside of an Egg Roll is made out of dough that they dip in egg or basted with an egg wash and is then fried to make the crunchy outside. [source]

Spring Rolls (right picture):

Spring rolls are thinner and most often contain only vegetables. While commonly fried, spring rolls can also be served cold and not fried, sometimes being called summer rolls or garden rolls. Spring rolls most often are wrapped using a rice-based wrapper. [source]

Generally, the only differences between the two are the wrapping, size, and whether it's fried or not. The more you know!
