The Graveyard Shift - Camp Edition

Hey everyone! Welcome to the Graveyard Shift, the nightly hang-out hosted by Kotaku's reader-run blog, TAY. This is a place to talk about anything - your lives, your gaming habits, or whatever else you desire. Hop on in and join the discussion! If it wasn't pretty obvious from the header image, I finally started watching a new anime this week. No, really guys, I actually started watching one. I know I always say I'll hold it off for a week, but... this time I finally broke down and did it, and I'm... actually loving it.

Let's be completely honest: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (shown above) is a complete schlock-fest. It's ridiculously over-the-top and action oriented, it never takes itself too seriously, and it's riddled with nods to things that... honestly, if it were any other show, it probably shouldn't do. Heck, there's a character called Robert Edward O. Speedwagon in there.

And, of course, he's just as much of a gentleman as you'd expect him to be.

The point being, TAY, that if there's one thing I absolutely can never get enough of, it's camp. Camp introduced me to bizarre and random games that I would never have played otherwise like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Deadly Premonition. It's guided the way to some hilarious movies like Rubber and The Final Sacrifice. And now, I've followed it to a brand new anime series, and so far I love every moment of it.

That's what we're going to talk about tonight, TAY; tonight's topic for the Graveyard Shift is campiness—or we could just make it about lovable schlock in general. And for those of you who aren't sure what I'm talking about:

campy

adj. being so extreme that it has an amusing and perversely sophisticated appeal.

So, TAY, are there any campy titles that you enjoy in any medium? Can't get enough of things like Mystery Science Theater: 3000 or Twin Peaks? Maybe you're crazy and you avoid camp altogether? Talk about it down below!

Did the topic not interest you? Feel free to talk about life, love, gaming, or whatever else you desire. The Wednesday Graveyard Shift is now open!
