Ani-TAY News: The “Winter Preview” Edition And Then Some MoreS

The Fall Anime season is coming to an end, and so we get to see the first glimpses of what the upcoming winter season has in store for us. Check out the full chart here.

I have talked before about 2 of the series that will air on this season that I’m looking forward to (Setokai Yakuin Domo and Saikin, Imouto No Yousuga Chotto Okashii N Da Ga), so I will use this space to recommend another couple of series that I think will be worth watching.

First of all I would say that the one I’m looking forward the most is the second season of Silver Spoon, since if you have read the manga, you will know that the series will only get better from here, and the first season adaptation was very enjoyable, but most people know about that series, and so I will take this space to recommend less-known series instead.

Ani-TAY News: The “Winter Preview” Edition And Then Some MoreS

First off is Nisekoi, (I said less known, but I know of a few TAYers that are familiar with this one) a Romantic Comedy about two rival gang families that, in order to prevent a war between them, decide to settle their feud by pairing their leaders' children. Only problem is that they hate each other but must pretend to be in a relationship in order to maintain peace between the gangs; and so comedy ensues. And to top it all, the animation studio in charge of the adaptation will be no other than Shaft, and the director would be Akiyuki Shinbo who worked on both the Monogatari Series (which is one of the best Anime of the year IMO), and Madoka Magica, so pretty much a high profile release for next season, and one to follow (even if you don’t like Romantic Comedy or Harem-esque series this one may peek your interest)

Second one will be Tonari no Seki-kun a Comedy series about the interaction of main protagonist and narrator Rumi Yokoi, and the guy sitting next to her in class cleverly named Toshinari Seki, and how he’s always playing incredibly elaborate games at his desk and somehow never gets caught in the process while absorbing Rumi's attention in the process. Based on a Manga of the same name, is a very lighthearted but catchy and adorable comedy that should be on your radar. In charge of Shin-Ei Animation of Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan fame (they also did The Knight in the Area recenlty), so don’t expect out of this world animation but a nice and charming school comedy.

Third one will be Mahou Sensou, based on a series of Light Novels, the story centers around Takeshi Nanase, an ordinary High School boy who has a somewhat dark past. Due to certain circumstances he formed a “fake” couple with his childhood friend, and lives a somehow ordinary life, until one day he founds a girl dressed in a uniform he has never seen before collapsed on the school campus. This encounter changes Takeshi fate completely since when the the girl wakes up she apologize and tells Takeshi that she is a Magician, and that she accidentally has also turned Takeshi into one, and so the tale of two parallel worlds begin. Now there’s not much to say, only that I have a sweet spot for this kind of series so dive with care in this one. This one is produced by Madhouse.

You may have noticed at this point that I like romantic comedies, some with a supernatural touch in them, like the next one, Witchcraft Works. The story centers around Honoka Takamiya, a boy whose classmate Ayaka Kagari is talented in sports, excels in classes, and is attractive on top of everything. She also happens to be most powerful witch on earth. Her purpose in life is to protect Takamiya at all costs. The series will be in the capable Hands of J.C. Staff with a lot of the staff of the To Aru series, so quality is almost assured to be high, but then again stay away if this type of series is not your thing, but I'm more than in in this one.

Ani-TAY News: The “Winter Preview” Edition And Then Some MoreS

8. Date A Live (Koushi Tachibana and Tsunako)

9. Kuroko no Basket: Replace (Sawako Hirabayashi and Tadatoshi Fujimaki)

10. Accel World (Reki Kawahara and HIMA)

You may notice that in each category only 2 top 10 series don’t have Anime Adaptations: Ansatsu no Kyôshitsu (that I’m pretty sure will get one more sooner than later) and Terra Formars in the manga department (btw nisekoi placed in 30th place), and Kagerou Days and Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei in the Light Novel list, although both LNs have Anime adaptations announced and I have talked about the first one here, and the second one will get one in the hands of Shaft and Akiyuki Shinbo under the name Mekaku City Actors. So naturally it seems you need to be popular in order to get animated and that sucks. I want a Yankee-kun to Megane-chan adaptation now!!.
