I'll soon be turning 32, and I find myself playing little else but the games I grew up with. I'm not trying to throw shade (that's a thing people do nowadays, right?) at newer games or the gamers that fawn all over their Calls of Duty, Assassins creeds, and whatever iteration of Grand Theft Auto we're currently on. I'll play them until I get my fill, but I just can't get into it like other people can.

I find that my threshold for newer games is steadily decreasing. Take bioshock infinite for instance. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I played through it, beat it and I will likely never pick it up again. In contrast to that, 7 years ago I played through bioshock three times back to back (Once to save the little sisters, once to harvest them and then once more just to take my time wandering through the awesomeness of rapture). I can't explain it. Columbia was neat. It just didn't enthrall me like Rapture did.

Over the Gaming Hill?

10 years ago I played Halo 2 incessantly, but I couldn't even be bothered to pick up Halo 4 last year.

I maxed out the clock on Final Fantasy 7, but I've only played between 20 and 30 hours of FF13. I have no desire to play more of it.

I don't know that I'm necessarily outgrowing anything. I can't imagine never playing any games, but I just could not care less about newer games.

Maybe it's just a product of getting older and having less time to play thanks to life's many demands. But even when I can eke out some gaming time anymore it's either playing 15 year old PC games (SW: Dark Forces 2, at the moment), 18 year old SNES games (Mario RPG), or the port of a 16 year old PSX game (FF:Tactics)on my tablet.

Over the Gaming Hill?

I hope this is a temporary thing… I'm really excited to play Smash Bros WiiU, Mario Kart 8, and LoZ: Hyrule Warriors (also Infamous: Second Sun when I can afford a ps4).

Over the Gaming Hill?

If not, I guess I'll always have access to Genesis, SNES, N64 and PSX games one way or another.

Over the Gaming Hill?

So am I alone in this? Or do you lovely ladies and gents have differing opinions?
