I'm not normally a mean person, especially at work. I like to stay positive, and I want everyone to like me and enjoy working with me. Sometimes though, my mouth likes to act a bit faster than my brain, and I don't have time to stop myself from saying something that probably should never have been said at all.
There was a group of us sitting around the table at lunch, and a woman from our team came in to join us, but we noticed that she hadn't brought her lunch with us. Someone asked "where's your lunch?" and she said that she's "trying to lose some weight because she ate a lot while on vacation, plus she had already eaten a bagel an hour earlier".
In my infinite wisdom I said (without thinking), "well if you're trying to lose weight you probably shouldn't have eaten a bagel".
Why would I say that?
She just sort of stared at me in bewilderment. Luckily she brushed it off and laughed a little, and the conversation continued. That was awful of me.
So my question is: Have you ever blurted out something without thinking, shocking everyone around you?
If you don't want to talk about this, then feel free to talk about anything else!
