Welcome to TAY: Open Forum. I've decided to be a bit controversial and make sexism the unofficial topic today, because why not?
Also, this chart is hilarious.
So, how do you folks feel about sexism in video games? Do you really think there is a gender bias in the industry? Share your thoughts and images.
Or not. Whatever. It's not like I'm paid to do this.
You have no idea how long it took me to find these photos...
My personal thoughts? I think there's definitely sexism in the industry. I have no issue with the occasional damsel in distress or fan-service character, but it would be nice if there was a change from style over substance to substance over style.
Also, just to try to curtail this before it floods the comments section, but sexy does NOT equal sexism. Here are some examples of sexy characters that are not sexist:
- Juliet Starling from L0llipop chainsaw is NOT sexist. This is a tongue-in-cheek character. She's supposed to be hyper-sexualized to be a counter-point to the gore and violence in the game. It's a comedy schtick.
- Zero Suit Samus. Yes, the suit is eye candy, but damn can she handle her own. Also, one of the few instances of a female character where less armor ACTUALLY EQUALS less defense.
P.S. This made me rofl.
