TAY: Open Forum

How's everyone's Tuesday going so far? Is it just ending? Just getting started? I don't really care (I'm lying, I do care). Enough small talk, let's jump right into today's unofficial topic!

What are your favorite video game spinoffs? I remember back when I was a lad (read: teenager) and the N64 was all the rage (Playstation? More like GAYstation, amirite?). I remember a little game called Hey You, Pikachu for the N64. Anyway, I was at Blockbuster (remember those?) looking for a game to rent, and they had it available with the headset and everything. I rented it for a weekend, and I remember it being at least slightly amusing. It's far from my favorite spinoff, but I have to admit, it was a lot of fun giving voice commands to pikachu and having him occasionally recognize my voice. It was like having a virtual pet you could talk to in the event you didn't have any real friends.

Some other notable spinoffs I enjoyed:

  • Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 (esp. 2)
What's not to love about battling with your favorite pokemon in 3D!!! Also, you could play your gameboy game on the TV and SPEED IT UP. Made grinding SO much easier.
  • Mario Kart 64 and 7
These are my two favorite Mario Kart games. Don't get me wrong, DS, Double Dash, and Wii were pretty good, but I think these were by far the best made games.
  • Diddy Kong Racing
This one's for you GBD. It's not my favorite kart racer, but it's top 5, easily. The DS version was even better with the extra courses, although some of the minigames (collecte the silver coins) were ridiculously unfair...

Now, it's your turn! What are your favorite spinoffs? Maybe you were partial to Pokemon Snap, or Final Fantasy Tactics. Let me know in the comments below!

Don't forget to visit our spinoff forum, TAYCLASSIC, where the conversation never dies! It only slows down occasionally. Also, maybe if you shout loud enough into the microphone, the other commentors will hear you and respond. I SAID "APPLE" PIKACHU! NOT WATERING CAN!
