The train of thought went that Battleborn said the NSA was going to spy on my FFXIV playtime. This led me to think of JeffK's article where he said the FBI was going to knock down his door for installing Linux. Then I found this comic.
Which is pretty funny given what happened to him, but still. The internet used to be a really funny place. Old Man Murray would routinely write articles that would have me in stitches (and thankfully Eric Wolpaw went on to write for Portal). Cliff Yablonski hates you isn't funny now, but when the internet was young being totally over the top caustic was humor I could get behind! Seanbaby writes for Cracked now and some of his stuff is still rather hilarious, but the tale of Mark Discordia is still referenced by my friends...firehoses and novelty firehoses...
Am I being nostalgic or has the internet started to be ...not quite as funny. Memes are great but they can only do so much. It's all animated gifs and it's harder to weed out the really clever and the AFV style crotch shots.
What are some of the things you miss from the early days of the internet?
I guess we can always just go to Zombo.com and relive the glory.
