Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

Hey everybody! We're about 3/4 of the way through the season for 1-cour shows this season, or about 1/3 of the way through the 2-cour season, so I thought it would be a good time to give an update on my impressions from the start of the season, I haven't kept up with every single show that I previewed waaay back when the season started 9 weeks ago, but hey I gotta have some sort of life right? SO let's take a moment to mention our fallen brethren how you sucked, or just didn't fit into my schedule (because not all of them sucked, just a few :)

Fallen Series:

Blade & Soul

Fuun Isshin Dai Shogun

Black Bullet

Haikyuu!!

Brynhildr in the Darkness

Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara

The Case Files of Young Kindaichi Returns

Mekakucity Actors

Knights of Sidonia

Akuma no Riddle

Series I'm still following:

yeesh that's a lot of dropped series, no? Some of them I may even get around to going back to (don't get your hopes up Fuun Isshin Dai Shogun, I still want my 24 minutes back) Anyway, not all of these series were bad, it's just that I don't have the time to watch oh so many of these shows all the way to completion. That being said here are some standing impressions of shows that I have kept up with.

The Kawai Complex Guide to Manners & Hostel Behavior

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

My favorite show of the season. No, seriously. It's just so pleasant and it has me in fits laughing every week. I look forward to that late Saturday night airtime to get a good laugh from this bunch of weirdos every week. It's not the rom-com elements that keep me coming back, it's the lovable weirdos that inhabit the inn, Shiro and Mayumi are some of the funniest characters to grace anime in a long while. Though, the rom-commy elements are entertaining too, it's just that you can see what's coming a mile away.

The Irregular at Magic High School

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

this one's been fun ever since it picked up the pace around episode 3. It's still got the cardboard cut-out version of a protagonist, but they're hinting that there's a story reason for that. I'm liking it, but it's not got me HOOKED if you know what I mean. It's a decent sci-fi story with some cool action effects and an OP as hell main character. Could be your cup of tea or not, kinda depends on how you feel about incest undertones... *shivers*

Baby Steps

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

Loving it, I'm still hooked on the manga and I'm chomping at the bit to get the anime to catch up a bit. I'm a little sad that the animation dropped off a bit from the high quality of the first episode, but hey beggars can't be choosers right? I think Ei-chan's great and it's only going to get more fun from here.

No Game No Life

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

I'm kind of surprised at how much I've enjoyed this series so far, I was kind of lukewarm on it when it started out, but then it grabbed me in it's second episode and had me hooked from then on :3 The style's fantastic and the twists in the story are great. Sora reminds me of recent cunning heroes (villains?) Shiroe, Light, and Lelouch, cunning with a plan always in mind and a twisted sense of fun.

Captain Earth

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

I STILL have no clue what's going on, but the characters are great and it's just flat-out gorgeous, wouldn't put it near the top of my list, but it's a nice watch on the train.

One Week Friends

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

ALL THE FEELS ALL THE TIME. NON-STOP FEELS TRAIN. It's super adorable and I'm fabulous enough to admit it had me tearing up a couple times.

Nanana's Buried Treasure

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

Started out awesome, threw in a bizarre twist that really kind of hurt the show around the fourth episode or so, and it's probably the show I'm most disappointed in. I really want to like it, so much that I'm sticking with it to see if it gets better as it goes, but meeeeeeehhhhhh.

Soul Eater Not!

Trainime - Spring Anime 2014 Impressions Update!

A surprisingly good show, that doesn't take itself to seriously at the outset, but instead delivers some nice slice of life style stuff at DWMA, no significant plot carries over from the main series, though we do get some really nice backstory for a few characters, art style aside soul eater fans will love this series. no real plot movement, though the recent couple of episodes have pushed forward the overarching threat, shifting gears into a pretty crazy drama territory
