Transport Pokemon

Water/IceType

Poor Lapras...It was never designed by nature to be a ferry until them darn humans thought they could sit on its spiky saddle and travel the seas! I mean, calling it the "transport Pokemon" makes it less of a creature to honor and adore when it looks like a canoe to most people!

I mean seriously, every shot and depiction of Lapras usually features it transporting people on its back. So long as it doesn't mind, I suppose! But who cares, let's get to the art - You simply accept that side to the creature and one of the most familiar visual callbacks to the Pokemon in the anime and even the opening to Crystal is this profile view of the creature swimming gently across waves. I decided to make a diorama in a similar style seen in Weepinbell and Weedle.

Layer by layer, you can make out the pieces that create this work. It doesn't feature textures in the same way Weepinbell did, and doesn't have a consistent texture like Weedle. Instead, it's limited and more about presenting the scene then focusing on the materials or the subject. I think it's a simple little scene that can bring joy to the future. The icy waves depicted by the lighter and cool blues are in homage to the half ice typing, showcasing how it can withstand the temperatures.

What else do I really have to say? I think this piece speaks for itself! What do you think about this Lapras in diorama? Hope you enjoyed it and its serene nature; quite a contrast from the Gyarados from yesterday in a few ways! Thanks for looking, ladies and gents, and see you tomorrow! Good night!

Yours,

Bonny

+ Pokemon One a Day is a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the the first generation of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon from the set is completed. This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes.
