Vulpix, Pokemon One a Day!S

Fox Pokemon

Fire Type

Vulpix is a fairly popular Pokemon. For some time it was one of the only fox pokemon, before meeting Zorua and Fennekin. That said, for fox lovers, Vulpix was the go to Pokemon that was both adorable and beautiful in nature, especially when it would evolve. I originally wanted to illustrate a Vulpix sleeping against its 6 tails- That's a lot of cushoning! I imagined it to look comfortable and at peace. However, I was having trouble drawing out the tails so I moved to a more general kind of pose, but was still able to have the tails fan out in display.

My colors and approach represent more of a traditional fox, while taking plenty of cues from the original Vulpix. I have a lot more pink here, and everything is more orange than usual. The depictions of Vulpix I saw for reference either played with orange or light brick red color, amidst brown eyes and in some cases, green. I opted to go with this color eye as it really popped out against the color of the fur.

Apparently, Vulpix are born with with one white tail, and then the tail splits and changes color. I used that for inspiration while nodding at a real fox's tail. Foxes have a white tip at the end so I used the same cream thats found in its face and belly, which is also helps in peeking at the coloring Ninetales will be.

This was an illustration where as I kept going, I felt like I made a wrong turn from the direction I was going earlier. Thus, from the work in progresses I saved, I pulled out one of the save states and started from an earlier point in time and took the other route, saving me a lot of time and keeping me from losing my cool at my lack of success prior.

And there you have it! One Vulpix! Hope you enjoy the art - thanks for reading and view, guys! See you tomorrow!

Vulpix, Pokemon One a Day!S

+ Pokemon One a Day is a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the the first generation of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon from the set is completed. This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes.
