Word of the Day: Rigmarole

Good evening and welcome to Word of the Day! A journey through the English vocabulary and the words that piqued my interest, in WotD we'll be learning a new word for each working day of the week, bar holidays, unless there's a holiday special...

Today's word is:

rigmarole

|ˈrig(ə)məˌrōl|

noun [usu. in sing. ]

  • A lengthy and complicated procedure : He went through the rigmarole of securing the front door.
  • A long, rambling story or statement.

ORIGIN: mid 18th cent.: apparently an alteration of ragman roll, originally denoting a legal document recording a list of offenses.

Setting up one of those was an ordeal, never had one but had a friend who did, to those who never saw one in action, The AVGN made a case of how ridiculous it was, not to mention the amount of power it required to run >.< Thanks to Swan for offering the word of the day ^^
